2015 Maleny Aussie Day Celebrations
Maleny Showgrounds - 13 Maleny-Stanley River Road, Maleny
What’s your family doing on Australia Day? Why not drop by the Hinterland Aussie Day Celebrations at Maleny Showgrounds – for a morning of community fun for all ages. Apex will be serving up their traditional Big Aussie Breakfast from 7.00 am, and Mal Brough and the Maleny Singers will lead the warm Maleny welcome to our newest Australians in the Citizens Ceremony, complete with flag raising and accompanied by the 5th Light Horse Troop in all their finery.
You can work off that breakfast next by taking a leisurely tour of more than 50 displays at the Aussie Day Sport, Recreation and Service Club Expo. From 8.30 am – 12 (and free entry for all) see what the Range’s fabulous and diverse community organisations have to offer.
For the really active there are classic Aussie Day Games to enter, the Thong Relay or the Gumboot Throw! There’s plenty of other activities too for kids to try from the under 12’s on, including table-tennis, Tae Kwon Do, rugby, and racing.
Brisbane Roar’s cuddly mascot Roary will be giving out playing tips about the Beautiful Game, you can whack a ball through the hoop on the croquet lawn, or get to grips with netball.
Gardeners are well catered for with the Garden Club and Barung Landcare there to share their knowledge and love of the Range, Maleny Arts and Crafts will be showcasing their wares and there are interesting displays from the Historical Society, Horseless Car Carriage Club, Blackall Woodworkers and our Rural Firies.
Did we mention that Maleny's Ukeleles will be there? By collecting a stamp from the displays on your Expo Passport, you’ll also be in the Passport Draw at 11.30, with great prizes to be won from local businesses!
Maleny’s service organisations have joined together with the Maleny District Sport & Rec Club to bring you this great community event, proudly sponsored by the Maleny Credit Union and the Hinterland Times – see you there bright and early on 26th January!
